i have a problem..

I bought a 40 gal breeder tank for my australian velvet geckos less then a year ago. It came from petco or petsmart (cant remember which one) its the type that has the screen lid that slides out.

Well when it was first brought home the tanks lid never fit right,I had to mess with it for it to line up right in the back, but I didn't feel like driving an hour there and an hour back to return the whole thing for a new one. So i thought I could deal with it.

But now its much worse, i think my cat helping to make it worse, she sleeps on it. If it gets any worse my geckos will be able to get out. If you go to ebay and do a search with Item number: 2388144533 take a look at the top. Thats how my 40 gal breeder tank is.

Anyway to make a long story short I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a replacement screen/lid for it. A regular universal one you can buy at a pet store wont work, because they have a complete rectangle frame. The one I need only has a frame piece on one side, the universal ones would leave a gap where the gex could squeeze out of. (hard to explain)

Anyways... Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement one? I dont know the company that makes the herp tanks to try to get in touch with them. And I dont have the money right now-or anytime within the next 2-3 months to buy a new tank- though i dont really want to buy a new tank just for a screen lid! (We had a vet emergency, big bill! Its going to take us a while to pay that off. it set us back a little bit)

Anyway, please let me know.

Try contacting Petco or Petsmart. They are usually really good about offering replacement parts or doing exchanges. If you can find a temporary cover for the tank, take it in after calling them and get a new one. I've had them exchange entire filters for a replacement intake screener that I broke while assembling it, and I bought a tank ornament for my turtles that after 6 months started to decay in the water and they gave me a new ornament for free that wouldnt decay...

there's two things that you could do in the situation that you have. with the design of the Critter Cage the screen slides out along with the front piece of the frame of the tank. now, you can either remove the orignal screen from the front rim (should just be screwed on) and silicone it to the top rim of the tank. this will create a full top rim all the way around, and you can place a screen top on that. OR you could leave the screen completely in tact, and closed all the way and you could put a screen on top (there's a full rim there just like before) and have a double-screened effect. the screen top i have found that best suits this they ESU Tough Top, accompanied by ESU screen locks.
