Plastic Hide Box VS Open Rubbermaid

Jbuggs20 Mar 23, 2004 07:33 AM

Does the hide box have to have a bottom? I have been useing standard plastic hide boxes for my geckos? Would a rubbermaid with a hole in the top be better? Opinions? Also the babies seem to enjoy the cricket carboard that comes in the boxes. Nice 5x5in piece and instant hide box lol.

a hide doesnt need to have a bottom however if providing a humid hide your pretty much gonna have to have one with a bottom or it wont hold the humidity.... i wouldnt use the cricket egg crate BUT if you can get unused/clean egg crate no cricket poo they would love that... i would just be worried that the cricket poo and whatnot might not be real healthy like parasires or foreign mildews or molds but yes a good idea if you can find new egg crate... also toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls work excellent for hides too

Thanks for the info I made both kind of hide outs in the enclosure. I spray the Cardboard from the boxes with the antibacterial I use to clean the cages let it dry over night then give it a wipe and it works great.
