An even BIGGER Temperature problem

fadetolemons Mar 23, 2004 08:28 AM

Alright, I was having some trouble w/ heating my cage, because it seemed like the UTH i'm using wasn't really heating up the tile much at all, and it remained around 75 on the hot side, and the same for the cool side, but it was actually a lot colder on cool side because tile generated cold temperatures well. So last night i had my room thermometor set to like 76 or so, and when i woke up, it had dropped to 62!!!!! I was so worried, W/ the tile being like it is it must have been like 50 degrees in their cage!!!!! I hit it back up, put a heating pad near the cage and warmed them up. How can i get my room temp to not drop over night? And what can i do about heating up the tile more??/ God I gotta get this figured out!

Along with the heating pad get a day bulb to boost up day temps then get an infrared bulb or night bulb to boost night temps. In my ten gallon tank a 75 watt basking bulb heats up the cage to 88 and a regular 60 watt household use bulb does it to 85 in the day so you can use a regular house hold bulb. For night I reccomend a 75 watt infrared spot bulb that will boost temps to around 75-80

What type of UTH are you using? I have slate tile on the bottom of my enclosure and the warm spot is a solid 90 degrees. You might want to check on your UTH to see if it is working.

I went to the store today and got a 60-watt ceramic bulb thing, which so far seems to be awesome!! Kinda pricey, but it is working excellently. I don't think i'll have a temp problem anymore.

I live in Winston-Salem, her parents own 'Pet Supplies Plus', and her aunt and uncle own one in Greensboro or High point.

i suggest getting a human heat pad. And putting that under half the cage on the medium setting. Make sure the cage is about 1.5 inches above the heat pad. If that doesn't work then get a heat bulb (red/blue/CHE).
