Was it just an "egg" alone because if it was it prolly is an egg.If it was next to her poo and its lumpy then its jus a urate.

yeah it was just one egg. it wasnt near any poo, and its nearly perfectly egg shaped. i made an incubator with a heat lamp, some lizard litter, and a tupperware dish. how long will gestation last? (if this is an active egg)

any way to tell if its an active egg?

i picked her up and gently prodded her belly, she doesnt seem to have any more eggs. a urate? is that like her dropping an egg, kind of like a bearded dragon period? lol

A urate is like lizard urine along with the liquid part of the poo. Gestation(sp?) will take around 45 days if you incubate at 85 or so.You candle the egg to see if it is fertile, that is picking up the egg **carefully** ,make sure to not move it around or you can drown the baby in it, and take a flashlight or candle and hold is up to the back of the egg and if you see a life form than it is fertile. For more info on the candling ask an experience breeder on the forum.

how come just one egg? the guys dragon a few posts down laid like 32 i think. maybe causse mine is so young? maybe 6 months old i think.
she did look HUGE last night
i was starting to wonder whta impaction looks like, maybe a bloating, and now this. hmmmmm.

leofreak Mar 23, 2004 09:25 AM

Well has she made any contact with a male? Maybe she just laid an infertile egg(like beardie period lol) although she is pretty young. She could be producing more so make sure she keeps up her weight and you may look into getting some silkworms because they are high in calcium and are pretty good at fatting up.Try soaking her if you think she is impacted and get her a visit to the vet.

Just one egg?????????
Do you have a lay box for her.
If not get her into one ASAP. If she is laying in the middle of her cage, she NEEDS to lay. How did a 6 month old get bred, I don't want to start that argument again but that is really young.

I've never even seen infertile clutches of just one egg....as Sean says, if you can't find any more, set her up a laying box asap.....

And I'm with Sean.....a 6 month old dragon is way too young to breed. evem if she is "big"....if she's still in with a male, please seperate them....

Congrats, now to deal with the situation. You can do it in a homemade incubator (google if you're not sure how to build one) that's fine but I would aim for 82-83 and the key is moist air and put them on a moist substrate, vermiculite moistened until you can just squeeze a drop out of a pinch works. You will also have to add water on a regular basis depending on how fast the vermiculite dries out. I put mine in glad sandwich containers and then drill a few holes in the lid for ventalation. Incubation time averages 60 days (give or take a week or two). You probably won't be able to tell anything yet, maybe a couple blood vessels but don't expect to see anything moving around until 4-6 weeks. Good luck
