rats to mice? long sorry

mistysprouse Mar 23, 2004 12:20 PM

Ok my 9/03 male has only eaten live rat pups since he was born. I have had him for a little over a month he weighs about 250 grams, he ate the first two weeks great. Then my reptile store has only been getting really small rat pups 6 days old, well I got some 2 weeks ago and he didn't want anything to do with them, I took out one I had froze for a rainy day (like them not having rat pups) and he didn't want it either. Again this week they only had the really small ones so I didn't even get them, I tried some more of the frozen ones and still nothing I haven't been able to start the moving him to frozen (mixing them in with the live) yet so this isn't a suprise.

So what should I do if this week they don't have rat pups again? I have called other reptile stores and they are the only ones who ever have rat pups. Can he eat mice and still go back to rats without causing a problem? I don't think he is big enough to eat the small rats they have either or I would move him up.

any thoughts?

I feed my snakes mice whenever the petstore doesn't have any rat pups. Your snakes should eat the mice without any problem.

Good luck!

it was just the getting him off of the mice and back to rats I am worried about, just wondered if it would cause problems with him going back to rats.

Shouldn't cause any problems at all.

Your'e BP is old enough and big enough to be eating full size mice now, but if you are not confident enough to feed it adult mice, try in on live weaner mice to start with and progress onto adults in a couple of weeks. All of my 03 holdbacks are eating two adult mice per week and weighing in at between 550 and 600 grammes each.
