Len Krysko's WC Apalachicola Kings

Sean Mar 23, 2004 12:54 PM

Stopped by Len Krysko's recently and wanted to see the parents of the two females I bought from him. He was nice enough to let me photograph them as well. Here is the male.

And here is the female.

He had another WC male as well.

What do the bellies look like?

Sean Mar 23, 2004 07:50 PM

The bellies are basically light colored with very little checkerboard pattern. Most of the scales are bicolored.

My striped male has a solid black belly.

This is one of the snakes from his '02 snakes as well. The pic is not the greatest and should be lighter...I was testing out my new digital and so I was off a bit. Save the first few crossbars toward the head, the doral stripe is uninterrupted.

Thanx for putting up pics of the parents Sean...I've seen the parents of the Sulphur Yellow Florida King I got from Krysko back in '01 and they were both beasts - the male was close to 6'.
He's got a cool set up down there in Tampa...used to stop by on my way back from wetland sites to pick up snakes to carry back on the plane with me!

That snake looks like it's about 16-17 inches long. Am I correct? Interesting that one of my females is a 2002 as well and she's nearly 35 inches and should be ready to breed this year.

agalinis Mar 24, 2004 01:57 PM

...she's about 22-24" long. I don't fed as heavily as some folks and I don't plan on breeding her anytime soon, so she's going to be smaller than yours for sure.

Breed her this year?! The snake's only 18 months old right now!!
You must mean in the next spring...am I correct? I don't understand everyone's rush to breed their snakes...why not wait until she's 2.5 years old or nearing 3? What's the rush? I for one don't think it's healthy to push breeding too quickly, but that's just MO.

Peace.

John

Sean said she was 35" thats near 3' lol. I bet in the wild as soon as females can they are breeding be it 2.5' or 4'. Some snakes just get big fast I know I have a female Eastern thats damn near breeeding size and she wasnt pushed. She is a 2002 and is 34" or so but I will still wait one more year and when she is about 40".

John,

Like I said, she is 35 inches in length. And I don't force feed her. She just eats! And yes I meant this Spring. But it will probably be in about a month or so as I'd rather her grow a little more. If I felt she was too small believe me, I would not want to risk it.
