Baby food?

mellordies Mar 23, 2004 02:25 PM

I had too wake up my little guy today to do a little work to its cage,(still hibernating) and he was walking around very curiouse to what I was doing. Tried to feed him a few king worms, then a thawed pinkey and he was more interested in trying to bite me. Then I mashed up a chunk of banana which he took a few bites of. Certainly not a piggy like I'm always reading about, maybe 'cause he still in sleep mode? I ended up throwing the rest of the banana away and was wondering if small cans of babyfood would be more efficient until he does start to pig out. Ya think it's tegu safe? Maybe even better? Thanks for any feedback, you guys are very helpful, you know who you are!

You dont like bananas huh? lol How old is yours? Mine (July 2003, 17" ate also his first day out. It took him about 3-4 weeks to develop that legendary appetite though. I don't know about the baby food. I hear they don't start to like fruit until they're older. Mine will eat bananas and grapes so far, but I can tell he likes his ground turkey and mice better! I would maybe go get some ground turkey, roll it up into balls, freeze it, then thaw it out when needed. Cheap (for now) and easy.

I thought about that myself. My little female is not really eating yet. The little male sort of woke her up with his antics, but, while she drank, she wasn't eating. I tried the baby food mashed banana and she ate some. Since the reds are supposed to need vitamin C, and so far the male will not try the fruit, I thought of using the baby food and sort of glazing the turkey. Haven't figured out how to glaze a cricket (lol). The Gerber fruit medley has a variety of high vitamin C fruits in it and nothing that appears artificial or chemical, other than some ascorbic acid, which is, of course vitamin C. I wouldn't plan on a steady diet of it, but I had it to feed my crested geckos and day geckos, so I figured I'd try it.

If anyone has tried it, let me know how it worked, and if anyone has any reason to think that it may be bad for them, PLEASE let me know.

Im glad to help.I only dip my fruit in eggs . This way there is hardly any egg eaten. To much egg is not good (as Stella has told me). Glad to here thet It worked. You might try using less and less egg each feedimg to wheen him off the egg .I tryed this and it worked to a point . Santiago will sometime eat a kiwii with out egg.take care Russ

well i boiled 2 eggs and blended a bunch of fruit. about 1/4 of it was egg. does that sound like too much?

russ1066 Mar 25, 2004 09:15 AM

I would say no. I dip 2 Pealed whole kiwiis and 1 pealed and pited apricot when I feed Santiago fruit. He eats them whole.( he`s kinda big so he can do this). Try cutting up the fruit into sizes he could eat and, dip them into the blended egg. This will keep the egg consumption to a minimen. Good luck Russ
