Does anyone use Lab Diet 5001 for mice?

marksd Mar 23, 2004 02:59 PM

Hello everyone, Just wondering if anyone uses Lab diet 5001. I for a feed store by me that carries it but it is $27 for 50lbs. I think the 5001 is more of a general diet. I am wanting something for mice. I think the 5015 or 5020 from lab diet is more for mice. I am having them check to see if they can get the 5015 or 5020 from lab diet or from Muzuri the 11F5M99, 9F5M68, 5M01, or 5663. Seems like $27 for 50lbs is alot. I would much rather use some sort of lab blocks because I want to keep mice in a rack system with feeders on top. But it is pretty hard to justify that price if you can but corn, wheat, barly, etc from the grain mill for something like $7 / 100 lbs. I tried calling a place about 2 hrs from here that carries Kent Food stuff but they said they can't get any rodent food. I figured I would try because someone said Kent was like $10/50lbs. What is everyone paying for lab block? What else do you feed your mice that works in a rack system?

Check out my link below as well as others that state which food they use and prefer. I have used LabDiet 5001 & 5012 for my rats and some mice. Now I just breed rats and have them on Mazuri 5M30 which works wonders. Huge litters and healthy fat babies!!

Hope this helps!!

I agree with Michael. The Mazuri ovals are phenomenal. Cost is $14.95/50lb. bag.

What Is the number of the rodent blocks you use? Is lab diet more expensive than Muzuri? Just curious because like I said the 5001 is $27 for 50lbs. The same place is susposed to be calling me back with prices on Muzuri but that was over a week ago.

for my rats and mice. That is about the same price I pay for mine. I get good production and maintain good health with my animals. I have considered trying dog food mixing that in with the lab blocks to help offset some of the expense.

good luck

Hi there I use the lab diet 2000 for my breeders which cost me 16.00 for 50 pound bags and the 3000 for all my weanling ect. I can not say enough about the 2000 my mice were haveing 20 litters and then I switched to useing a variety of lab diet products my locale feed store gives me really good deals on bags that might have been ripped but I switched back and I will pay the 16.00 a bag because the litter rates are pretty much double with that look at there website it tells you about all there products the 2000 is very high in fat hopes this helps thanks again Paul
