My adult male veiled (the one who ran out of the cage last week and with whom i had quite an adventure, which led to me inventing a cardboad box contraption to get him back home) keeps trying to run out of his cage!!! EVERY time i feed him, try to clean his cage, try to mist the cage with the door open or anything else which envolves me opening the door, he sprint for the doorway to make an escape. He never scratches at his screening or anything like that, and spends his day at the top of his cage (no other signs of unrest).
It is a 2x2x4 all screen enclosure with a pothos vine at the bottom (with some of it's longer vines attatched to the side and top for climbing) a very full and tall ficus bush, and a small spider plant in the corner.
I very recently made a stand for his cage, which raises the cage 2 1/2 feet off of the ground. The last escape he made was before the cage was raised, and when he did try to escapse, it was mroe cautiously than when he tries to do it now. I assume he is more comfortable up higher than human faces, but why is he trying to escape? He knows very well what happens, he usually falls down and runs into a corner only to end up hissing/gaping/puffing up/ curling and uncurling his tail, so why would he still try to explore the far reaches of my bedroom?
It is becoming impossible for me to clean the bottom of his cage, i just tried 5 mins ago and got to wipe up some grime and one terd, but thats it. There is still mroe grime and terds and dead insects fto be cleaned!
This is becoming very frutsrating, and i want to avoid handling him at all costs becuase every time he ends up on ym hands, he gets VERY stressed or mad and ends up running off the edge of my hand and onto the floor, I reallty don't want him to break anything!!
Please help with any advice, perhaps I sould try to let him out more ften so he doesnt feel as much need to explore?
