Is there a list of vegetation map turtles can eat??

girliegirl Mar 23, 2004 03:31 PM

I bought a map turtle a couple weeks ago and was wondering if anyone has a list of plants/vegetables they can eat? What about ones NOT to give them? I'm doing good on the insects and fish to feed, but I'm not sure on the veggies. I don't want to hurt the little guy and would like to give anything but the pellets.

Thanks for all you help.

Carrie

You should try and encourage him to eat a bit of vegetation but a little aquirt like this might be more likely to eat protein first and vary his diet as he gets older. Try some of these chickory (curly endive), escarole, dandelion greens. Java fern is an aquatic plant that most of my veggie eaters go for. Water hyacinth or water lettuce (both of which will make a mess as he chew them up. So folks use Anacharis as well but this is another big mess maker.

I knew there had to be something that was better than lettuce, YUCK. I feed my beardies the same veggies so that makes it easy. I won't have to buy anything special.

Thanks again for your help!
