starting babies off cricket free...?

dmlove Mar 23, 2004 05:01 PM

How do you all do this? do you never give them crickets, and just salad and pellets from day 1? what if they DONT eat them? Im thinking about doing this with mine, but im not sure (got time to think before they hatch!!)

Also how do you mark them, nail polish?

Thanks for the replies

Lisa over at benniersbasics will probably be able to answer this better, I'm kind of new at the idea but I'll give it a shot. Short answer is Yes pellet and salad from day 1. I give them a salad in the morning with cracked soaked pellet in it and then I hand feed a pellet mix in the eavining. I use a syrenge to hand feed because I feel too clumsy with the little guys trying to hold them and use my big ol fingers up in their face. If they don't go for it right away (which mine almost always do) you can gently pry the side of their lip open and once they get a taste they start laping away. You can also give baby supers and silks to them (in their salad or by hand). As for your second question, yes it's nail polish, non-toxic paint pens, sharpie marker, etc. as long as it's non toxic. Hope that helps
