Which Boa makes the best pet?

kenfoster Mar 23, 2004 06:48 PM

I am interested in acquiring a young boa for my son. Which boa makes the best and most docile reptile? We are ball python collectors and are not familiar with boas. Thank you for your comments.

1) How old is your son?
2) What experience do either of you have with reptiles?
3) What lies in the foreseeable future for you or your son (college? job? new home? girlfriend?)

I get lots of these queries from folks who wish to introduce their children to the responsibilities of owning a pet. But often, the parent forgets that ultimately, the care of that pet falls on THEIR shoulders. So, do YOU want a pet boa that you can share with your son? If not, then I don't suggest doing it at all. Snakes are great animals to own, and I encourage young people to get involved with them. BUT, if the parent doesn't want to be a full participant, then it rarely works, in my experience.

If you'll respond with the above info, I'm sure we would be able to make some great suggestions for you.
