Growth Rate (Getula)?

RalphSnakeMan Mar 23, 2004 08:01 PM

Hello all,

I'm curious as to the growth rate of Getula. I purchased my female desert kingsnake in July of '03. The snake feeds aggressively on approximately 1 fuzzie and 1 pinkie(sometimes 2 fuzzies)(F/T) every week to 10 days, and has only refused 1 meal since I've had her(I think her natural clock told her time to stop feeding). When I got her, after her first shed she was about 26" long. She is currently about 28" long. I'm guessing she was a yearling when I recieved her, but she has only grown about 2" /-1" in the 8 months that I've had her. My hatchling Hondurans have grown atleast 6 " since I've had them(I aquired them about 3 weeks after teh Desert King.) She's about as thick as a good-sized fuzzie.

Should I be worried, or is this normal?
Should I try and offer her a bigger meal, or more fuzzies per feeding?(I think she'll take more if I offer, as soon as she hits her feeding enclosure, she's ready to strike at anything that moves...)

Thanks for your time,
Ralph

the 2"/-1" should read two inches, plus or minus an inch* and the 6" should read six plus inches...this forum doesn't like plus symbols, huh?
