feeders in GA

reticulus Mar 23, 2004 08:11 PM

Just mooved Back to Georgia after 4.5 years stationed in Camp Pendelton California. 6 retics and 1 burm feeding daily is to expensive to pay pet store prices. Even if you go in and cleen them out rat and rabbit prices dont seem to drop much. HELP! Anyone know of anyone local.

thanks

Dude, at this point, you need to breed your own. Think about it, a pet store is a buisness. They sell feeder food for a profit, not to help you out. They figure out how much it cost them to buy in bulk, then add in maitainance fees, then they factor in demand, and there you go, they got the price that they are willing to sell them to you for. If you breed, you only have to contend with the initial startup fees for the initial breeders and their enlosures/food/etc. then it will all be the costs for the bedding food and water. If you are feeding high volume, It seems to work out much better, plus, you know exactly what your snakes/lizards are getting in their food.

The other option is to buy in bulk, frozen. Prices should be cheaper than what you pay at a pet store, buy far, but you will probably need several freezers to have a food supply for all those giants your keeping.

just some "food" for thought.

... And I was telling you that it would be monetarily and nutricionally beneficial for you to breed your own food given the amount that your animals can consume.

maybe you should work on your reading skills, cut being an A-hole.

Look pal,Im not bashing what your saying. All in all your correct. It would be benificial to breed my own rodents. Ive done it before and if I was in a position to do so agian I would. However, Im not.

Did I say, "Hey man. This information isnt usefull." I dont recall typing that. Did I insult or criticize you in any way? Did I call you an "A- hole" or insinuate that you read poorly?
Did I address my post to you? No. When people post theyre not necessarily directing their post at you. They are not attacking you. Theyre appealing to anyone (read ANYONE) who reads their post and has information that may help or is rellavent to the subject. What Im trying to say is that Im REALLY sorry that I hurt your feelings. I wasnt trying to hurt your feelings. I was just attempting to locate a rodent breeder in Ga. Is it wrong of me to refuse to deal with middelmen wherever possible so that I can avoid paying a pet stores overhead for them?

This is the feeder forum, right? Was asking if anyone knew of a rodent breeder in Ga unsuitable subject matter for this forum? I should watch my mouth. Kids could be reading this. Please, write me back and tell me how to conduct myself further so, that I dont further distress you. I should go back to the retic forum where people are not upset so easily.

Just some food for thought.

Now, if anyone knows of a rodent breeder in Ga I would greatly appriciate any information available. Please, allow me to apologize in advance if this offends anyone.

Thank you

first off i would like to apoligize for the actions of that other dude it makes us all look bad.

second i would just liek to say thank you for serving our country i assume you are in the military because you said you were stationed in cali.

third i would like to say you have some really beautiful snakes there realy beauties.

no i dont know if your looking for live feeders or what but if your looking for frozen thawed i would look at bigcheese.com, rodentpro.com, some some others like that. you can fine more in the breeders/dealer/store link at the top of the page. now if your looking for. live feeders some will ship live but youd have to ask the company.

I would suggest breeding you own mice if you have the time and space, but its really personal choice, i just started and my mice just gave birth today.

hope some of this info is helpful

Thanks for replying. I prefer to feed live but, that seems to be becoming a thing of the past as far as most big breeders are concerned. I dread the day that I have to buy a chest freezer.

Thanks

haha. yeah i had to get permission to put my mice in the freezer. i really think its personal choice if you want to feed live by all means go ahead, but just watch them because mice and rats can do some harm to snakes. but then again you have big snakes so that may not even be a problem. most big breeders feed live because it is easy, and they can get enough to feed there entire collection for a while for a fraction of what it would cost to feed live. But them again most big breeders have quite a lot of snakes.

I think if you want to feed live you should breed your own, considering the size and amount of snakes you have. that way you know your getting good high quality mice.

just another thought

good luck
