palmatogecko rangei, and stenodactylus geckos stay pretty small (3in max.)......so do helmeted geckos.I keep a pair of stenodactylus petrii in a 10g on sand substrate, water dish,cork...a UTH & a 50W heat bulb.Ive kept ALOT of geckos, but by far, stenodactylus are one of my fav.Try finding CB ones...go to desertgeckos.com for some pix...GOOD LUCK!

I personally like frog-eyes (Teratoscincus), but I don't know the particulars because I don't have any yet. Just wanted to give you the idea, though.

Teratoscincus Roborowski is one that would
do well in a small cage. It is much smaller than the other
Scincus species. They like to dig and make
burrows, so DEEP (at least 2 inches) sand and a bunch of flat rocks
piled on top of each other buried in the sand, plus a half
flower pot.

You can easily put a pair in a 10 gallon.

I would look at the small banded geckos. They can be housed two adults to a 10 gallon, you could keep a nice breeding group in a 20 gallon. In behavior, they are similar to leopard geckos, but they retain bands throughout their life. Their skin is more transluscent. They are quite adoreable.
Late at night, when all is quiet, I have heard the occasional soft "cheep". :D
