Ok - call me a doofus but what does it mean when people put 0.1 or .3 or 3.2 before their animal(s) type and name?

Not sure which is which, but its like 3 boys, 1 girl, 2 sub-adults. So it looks like 3.1.2.

the first number is males, the second females, the third (if present) is unknown gender.

so 1.2 means 1 male and 2 females
0.0.10 means 10 of unknown gender (often used when dealing with a clutch of unsexed babies)
