whats my veiled doing??

Just recently i have noticed my female veiled chameleon basking with her mouth half open. WHY? its really weird and she never did it before or i just didnt notice. anyone have any ideas?

Well, now it is spring and the temperatures are rising, therefore the temperatures in your house and in your chameleon cage will be warmer....thus, your chameleon will have a warmer body temperature and when the chameleons body temperature gets too hot it opens its mouth and regulates the heat. It is a reptiles way of sweating

oh...i kind of thought that but wouldnt she then move to a cooler part of her cage? instead she gets to the warmest spot.

Not being the smartest of animals, they won't care if a cool spot is available, they will sometimes just gape to cool down. My cham does that sometimes (not much) and other times he goes to a cool spot. In your case, you should just make the basking perch further from the light or the bulb wattage should be lower.
