I've got eggs, i've got eggs, i've got eggs..........

RedQuake Mar 24, 2004 07:51 AM

Ya its true.......found two this morning. I got up, got my coffee and then went into the gecko room to find flame looking very very thin and scratching at the tile as she walked around her tank. I thought, "OH CRAP, please not on the tiles, you have a lay box!!!" Well i checked the lay box, nothing. So i lifted her other hide and there they were. Plump, white and like stale marshmellows.

Now i'm trying to type buti'm shaking so bad. You should have seen me running around LOL. I checked the temps in the incubator i made, then put the eggs in a container, marked them and now the wait is on hehehehehehehe. I was so scared to pick up the eggs...my hands were shaking so bad, but i did it and they look wonderful Ya know the pics i've seen of eggs made me think they would be larger than they are hehe. Now i was terrified that the eggs would be stuck to the tile but they weren't. Good thing too cause the tile wouldn't have fit into the incubator hehe.

I'm so mad cause i've been to every feed store, pet store out there and no one had an incubator. And the place i know has them didn't respond to me.....BUT one of the feed stores said they should ahve some this week so i'm going to go call them and see if i can pick one up today.

Now the eggs should be Ok in my incubator for a week while i set up the temps in the real one right as long as the temps hold, which they should LOL......they have been this long while i've been waiting anyways.

This is to funny, i boughtmyself a cheap digital camera and started taking pics like mad, one of which was of Flame showing off her large tummy....its not large anymore LOL. She's still scratching too...

I've got to go to work tonight.....ya think they'd believe me if i called in sick hehehehehe.

Red (excited beyond belief)

Guess thats normal right

I've been expecting these eggs for a month, this isn't something new but i'm so frazzled (and i've got more eggs on the way too). So just to ease my mind could someone run down the do's and don'ts of incubating for me. I know this stuff, i do, but i can't think straight right now LOL.

Just as a side note, the eggs were laid on the tile just off of the under tank heater, so they weren't cooked. The tile is warm but in that particular spot not very hot. The general room temp is 75 degrees, very hot for me as i've been running around hehe.

Thanks all,
Red

Hey congrats! Been meaning to get get back to you over to the other forum and to let you know the expo is under a month away! LOL

I've been so busy this month and haven't had much time for the net. On top of that, my geckos have been laying eggs, my old cat had a stroke a few weeks ago. Had to boot to the vets, then had to keep and eye on her for a few weeks - she couldn't walk for awhile, but thankfully she's fine now and back to normal. Now I have like "10" back pages of forum to catch up on LOL. Uhg.

Let me know how you make out with finding an incubator. I live 5 minutes away from a feed store, and I just called there to see if they had any. He said that they don't keep them in stock anymore. They only order them as they need them, but they can get them anytime.

RedQuake Mar 24, 2004 09:13 AM

i tried to respond but my computer (the new one) wasn't setup to allow me into the page LOL. Sorry to hear about your cat. I'm glad she is doing better. I just called the feed store by me, they have hovabators in stock but they are the turbo fan model. They said they can order me in the thermal air one so thats what i'm going to do. Makes me a bit upset cause i had inquired about the thermal air one before and they said they carried them....just not this week LOL. My incubator is maintaining 80.5 degrees so i'm not going to freak out, anymore anyways LOL.

I've been keeping an eye on the expo site waiting for directions and a map to be posted which they are now. I'm just a bit confused as to how to get there from Oshawa, taking the 401. They have directions from the 401 AND the QEW but i thought i'd have to take the 401 TO the QEW LOL....i'll do a run down there before the show so i know where i'm going. I can't wait to go, still want to pick up an Amel AFT if possible. I'm working my butt off so i knowi'll have some money but then again i have 14 geckos now and i'm still organizing their room.....been working to much i think. Its only getting worse too....i have two 17 hour shifts coming up this weekend. I just know i'll be calling home to check up on the eggs every hour LOL.

I'm far behind in the forum too, haven't been on much to read. At least i can catch up later

That was a rough week. Everything hit me all at once from the cat having a brain blip, to gecko eggs, to my birthday, my period, a bad cold, a cold sore... oh man! :::s-t-r-e-s-s:::

Wow, you have 14 geckos? Did you get all the ones you were waiting for from the breeders now, or are there still more on the way at the expo? I'm pretty sure I gave you the directions to the expo. Have a look again at our old posts in the .ca forum.

I only have 4 leos and 2 other geckos. Well give me time, looks like I might catch up if all goes well LOL. One of my leos laid more eggs this morning, so now I have six eggs. I sat and watched her for awhile, saw her lay the second one. Poor thing was working so hard burying them, she'd peek out at me every once in awhile, then go back at it. I almost felt like getting a spoon to help her shovel LOL. I always feel bad going back later to uncover the eggs and remove them after all the work they put into digging and burying. So far all the eggs look good, so hopefully they will hatch. The waiting is killing me though LOL. How many eggs do you have so far? If you are maintaining those temps you should be alright, you may not even really need an incubator.

Ya it sounds like a bad week. I think i'm starting with a cold. On the day i get my very first eggs (two so far), i find that i'm totally depressed, tired, cranky. All i wanted to do after running around like a chicken with my head cut off this morning, was to crawl into bed, but no i had to go to work. And i ended up staying late cause the night girl woke up when she was supposed to be there GRRRRRRRRR they should have hired me for the job hehehe.

All of my leopard geckos except Boo (male) are from one breeder. My three crested geckos came from two different stores. I wanted to buy the AFT's and maybe a few leos in advance of the show but i think i'll just go and see whats there. One thing my father finds funny about me is that no matter how many times he goes over directions i can still end up lost LOL. I'll find my way down there, taking a friend who knows TO better than i do LOL. As a last resort i do have family down in that area so i could always call them hehe. But i'm sure i'll find it alright. Whether or not my car will make it is a different concern LOL.

I called a few times to check on the temps.....so far so good, 80.1 all evening. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy. AND the eggs had dented, more than likely from me picking them up, but i did the moist papertowel thing and they have plumped out nicely. I'm very happy. They look great.

I have a funny story to share.....i'm sure everyone will get a kick out of it...i'm going to start a new thread so everyone can laugh at me LOL.

Congrats, hope you produce some fine hatchlings. A couple egg pointers. Be sure to never rotate them and keep the top up the way they were layed, i mark them with a marker(youve prob done). Humidity is very important so be sure it is kept up, constant denting could be a sign its not high enough. I bury the eggs about half way in the substate and take the lid off the egg container every 2-3 days for a air exchange. If the eggs are fertile their actually alot tougher than you would think. If you think the eggs are small just wait till you see what comes out. Good luck and congrats again.

Thankyou I marked the eggs before i took the eggs out of moms tank. It was the first thing i was thinking LOL "mark the eggs mark the eggs". I was a mess hehe but i'm alot better now.
The eggs are all plump, no dents and the temps are holding at 80 degrees. I was in awe of how tiny they are. The night before my brother and i were looking at Flame and he commented on how huge they looked LOL. I can't wait for them to hatch.
Thankyou for the info
