I was looking for some information about spinytail iguanas. I have been posting in the iguana forum for a while. I am going to look at one tonite that someone is giving away. They rescued it 6 mos. ago and need a good home for it. I know I can take care of it, but I don't know much about them. I have 2 very healthy green iguanas and enjoy being their slave. I've been doing some research online since yesterday, but I'd like to hear from someone with experience. It is a female and is about 3 1/2 feet long. It has lost part of it's tail and it's grown back some. They told me that they have never seen one this big before. How big do they usually get? Do you still feed an adult meat or meat protien(along with greens)? Are the heat and uvb the same as greenies? I hear their temperment is not that good. They told me she's moderate, like they fight with her to get her out of the cage. Once she is out and gets calmed down then she is fine. They don't have time to handle her though. Will this get better the more I handle her? Also, will a 3'tall x4'long x2 1/2 deep enclosure be big enough for her? It has ramps and shelves uvb and heat. It even has a pool. It was an addition to my iggy cage that they do not go in so I thought of closing it back off if it will work for now. I read that they like to burrow and dig and that a certain type of mulch would be good for substrate. If you can give me any info that would be great. If you could post pictures that would be great also. Thanks for everyones help. Here is a pic of the enclosure that I am thinking of using. It has indoor/outdoor carpeting in it now. Maybe the pool could be filled in with something to dig.
