I have a paddletail newt that I currently have in dirt quarantine because of some sort of mouth rot. After I purchased him I noticed that his mouth looked a little odd but it has gotten considerably worse since then. It now looks like there is cartilidge showing on his bottom jaw. I put peroxide on the spot and put him in dirt last night but I am not sure what else to do or how long he has to be kept in potting soil. Other than his jaw rotting away he seemed to be in good health and ate very well. I have read that you can put neosporin on sores on a newt but am conserned that will the spot being on his mouth that he could injest some and I am not sure if that would kill him. PLMK what else I can do for him!!!!
