He's not basking and he used to!

CluetheCanadian Mar 24, 2004 11:10 AM

My RES is almost a year and a half and in the last couple weeks has stopped basking. Previously I had some large rocks for him to bask (which he use to use)but as I am getting him a new tank in the spring, I bought a basking platform with stairs on both sides. Since I put this in his tank he won't come out of the water, he hangs out by the filter and heater. This platfrom gives him more room to swim and I checked the temp on top with the basking light and it is between 80-90. I keep his water at about 75 and feed him every two days. Should I be feeding him more? I am not sure what length or age they have to be before they are not considered babies and shouldn't be fed everyday?! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I assuming I have done something to have caused this.
One more thought we live in Canada and with the weather changing could that have an effect?
Thanks again,
Sarah

I would say he is just not used to the new basking platform yet. I'm sure he will warm up to it eventually. And I believe you can feed every other day at around one year, making greens available all the time.

Thank you again for responding to another of my questions. I'll keep trying the greens but the only veggie he'll even touch is carrots.
