Just curious how often to feed Mazuri? I've got G. agassazi and sulcata (about 10" total shell length).
Thanks,
Ian

I usually suggest once or twice a week.
The schedule I use is one day of greens, one day off, one day Mazuri tortoise diet, one day off, repeat and then 2 days off. So it comes out to 2 days of greens and 2 days of Mazuri tortoise diet.

Trying to keep the fun in Chelonian care
Hi Ed,
This is Ian, we talked for quite a while after you spoke at the Chino Valley CTTC club meeting about 6 or so months ago. Thanks for the info on feeding. My Torts have full access to all the grass they want as well as access to alfalfa hay (the bedding in their houses. They are housed outdoors and at the moment aren't even close to mowing down what is there. Does free range feeding play a role in your schedules?
Thanks,
Ian
Yeaaaa... I remember with the memory jog.
To answer your question, free range feeding does not factor in except that they might eat less of the offered stuff. This is not a bad thing because if they have free range they are most likely getting a pretty good variety. That's actually the ideal situation. You'd be surprised at what they eat when they have free range... especially this time of year. I'm amazed at all the seed pods and flowers that are falling in the yard in addition to all the weeds. Sit and watch them for a while.

I keep two baby leopards (1 is a year and 3 months and the other is 3 months and a russian of unknown age). I feed the babies Mazuri only once a week. I offer fresh greens for them daily along with a grazing tray of wheat grass and a grazable slice of cactus pad.
These were the instructions I got from my friend who breeds leopards, stars, spiders, and pancakes as well as many endangered asian turtles.

I just started feeding Mazuri this past year. About Aug I started feeding it a little bit everyday. I have a 5 year old sulcata that previously was not growing very fast. I posted here multiple times and the husbandry was right. My tort has doubled in weight since aug (3lbs to 6 lbs) and his new growth is smoother than I've ever seen it. I don't know for sure that it is the mazuri but that's the factor that has changed.
Anyway I am starting to form the personal opinion that feeding something like mazuri really balances out their diet. Then you can substitute greens/veggies etc in large varieties to get all those extra goody nutrients etc. I also do the walkabout farms diet in the winter (a herp vet formulated o.g. hay/flowers/other mix.) mostly due to guilt that he can't go outside
Just my opinion, that subject can be a can of worms on this forum. I am ready to sing praises to mazuri though!!!

I meant to put a frown instead of a smiley face. It makes me sad my tort is stuck inside all winter
