Power outage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leopardman Mar 24, 2004 12:21 PM

I have a power outage and have 11 eggs incubating!!!The setup is in my basement(room temps at 64 Deg.)and I am using hot water bottles to keep temps in incubators up(currently holding at 75 deg. in one and 84 deg in the second). How far is a safe drop in temps. for them to be o.k.? Doing my best to hold them where they are. There temps. prior to outage were 80 deg in the first incubator(females) and 88 deg. in the second(males)will this temp change alter my chances of getting males9 they have been incubating for a week now). Thanks for advice in advance.

No I don't but you can bet I will from now on.I am using hot water bottles and is going fine but the temps dropped to 60 degs.for about 20 min. before I had a chance to do anything( I was at work and my wife called to tell me power was out).

You can get them almost anywhere in the camping usually.

Hi

To set sex on geckos, it takes two weeks at the temp. you choose for the sex you want. For females you need the lower temp.s so, but I wouldn't be sure about the male at this point.

did you get your power back yet? i was up in the middle of maine during the ice storm of '98. we lost our power for 9 days. it sucked! i had to keep my fish tank warm with hot water bottles, and regular scooping and pouring back in of the water for aeration. sucked.

a suggestion...do you have a gas oven? you could put a rock in the oven for a while 'till it heats up and then put that in your incubator. you would have to keep a careful watch of the temps though. might hold the heat better than a water bottle.

good luck,

amanda

Yea it came back on after 6 hrs. of no power. The water bottles helped keep temps. 1n the mid 80's and needed to be refilled every hour but all in all it went well.Found out a power line went down across from my house so hopefully this won't reocccur anytime soon!!!Thanks to everyone who gave advice.
