Cresteds - Size for Breeding

tntexotics Jun 12, 2003 10:45 AM

I have unrelated ciliatus that I have been raising for the past 8 monthes. They should each be in the 8-10 month age range. I was wondering what the appropriate wieght was to place males and females together. Currently most are 24-28 grams. In addition, what are the most successful recommendations for mixing in fire and colors. I have a yellow, orange, and fire male and a yellow, orange, and fire female. Should I out like coloration together to get the stronger colors or should I divide the fires to try and produce more fire style cresteds?

That wieght is still a bit small to breed her. You want to wait until she is at least 35 grams. You should be able to get her that wieght by 12 months.
good luck

12? My guys hit that weight around 6-7 months. However growth rate greatly depends on the diet. 8-10 months is a bit young tnt, I suggest more like 12-14. This way they are at least done with the majority of their growth and it is less stress on their bodies.
