AMAZING INCUBATION FACT!

caecilianman02 Mar 24, 2004 05:48 PM

Hi there:

The temperature that you incubate leopard gecko eggs at (and many other reptiles) can determine the gender of the hatchlings! If your trying to get hatchlings of a certain sex, here's how it works.

about 86 degrees farenheit- mixed sexes

about 77-82 degrees farenheit- females

about 90 degrees farenheit- males

I read about this in the Exotic Pets handbook, by "David Manning," and my fellow herpers who have tried it said it works! WOW!

This is pretty old news. Most gecko sites will state this. However, I would suggest against anything lower than 79 degrees.

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two

Although it may be common knowledge for most people on this particular forum, there was a time when every single one of us learned that incubation temperature determined the gender of leopard geckos. I remember how amazed I was when I found this out, too! Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm for your newly acquired knowledge.

Hi there:

Thank you for understanding my reason for posting this message. I am sure that many professionals indeed do know about this, but I also understand that many beginners come to this site to ask questions relating to their new pets, and I simply found the topic fascinating. Thank you once again for being so kind.
