How does beeding albinos to hypo-tangs affect coloration??? more..

jack7777766 Jun 12, 2003 11:04 AM

Im curious I know many of you and other breeders, mate lets say hypo-superhypo tangs to albinos patternless etc. to improve certain characteristics, can you tell me how and what these different breedings affect?? Like why some people would breed a hypotang to a patternless?? I hear everyone saying its to improve some trait or characteristic, (coloration, pattern), but which matings affect what???

Thanks
Jack

The goal of breeding a hypo tang to an albino is to produce hets that when bred back to an albino will p[roduce albinos which have greater orange (tangerine coloration) and more orange over the body (this is how hypo presents in albinos)

The pic below shows two hatchlings from the same clutch that are the result of a superhypotangcarotttail het albino and a hypotang albino breeding. The albino gecko looks mostly pink now, but I predict that the pink will fade and she will be all or mostly orange when she matures. But time will tell.

is there anything breeders use to improve their hypo-superhypotangs besides hypo-superhyotangs. Thanks again

Patternless is a different thing than hypo. Hypo is selectively bred. Patternless is a recessive trait. People working with superhypotangs generally work to improve them by working towards getting baldy or carrottail characteristics (also selectively bred traits)

Ive seen/read of some people breeding patternless to albino or hypo/superhypotangs. And I was wondering if this is done to improve the patt's or the hypo's and in what way??. Also about the hypos/superhypos I know of course you breed together for the best traits but I was wondring if any other morph is ever used to improve hypo-superhypo leo's and also in what way?

Patternless are bred to albinos to produce double hets which are then bred together to produce patternless albinos.

Patternless genes heterozygously expressed would not improve hypotangs. However, if you breed the hets together you could be hoping to acheive tangerine patternless geckos (tubbed tangelos by the only beeder I have seen to produce these, and this was well over a year ago). There have been theories but I don't think it is clear what effect if any the incorporated hypo characteristic would have on a homozygous patternless. If anyone knows for sure I would like to know myself.

I posted yesterday but didnt get a response How did it come to, how can you produce one without one??
Is it genetic?? Is it stripe genes plus another gene or a completely different gene??

Thanks
Jack

Not an area of expertise for me, sorry.
