A nifty little trick I tried...Anyone else ever do this???

My female sandfire has been digging for two weeks constant. Her eggs have been bulging for over a week. She seemed more than ready. I tried putting her in a 40 gallon breeder that is set up as a laying cage. For days she just kept climbing the pile and trying to jump out. She wouldn't dig at all in the tank. I put a laying bin in her cage and she constantly dug in it for a week and a half. She kept trying to burrow but it just wasn't deep enough. I was becoming concerned that she wasn't feeling comfortable with the areas she had been given to lay and that she might be holding on longer than she should. I took a piece of wood and a brick and layed it over her laying bin to form a little burrow. She went in it immediately and within two hours layed 24 healthy looking eggs. It was like she was bound and determined to lay in a cave like environment and the wood did it.

Cool great idea.. My female was digging all over and she wouldnt lay.. She would lay on the spot where i didnt put dirt/sand.. i figured out why. it was because the light was on that side so i filled the tub with it ( well not to the top ) and i moved the light to the midddle and she dug a tunnel downin the corner and she blessed me with 26 eggs there in the oven right now

Congrats,
Joey
