Advice Please - Sick Longtailed Grass Lizard

Pet_luv_n_mum Mar 24, 2004 08:16 PM

We have a beautiful 2yr. old Longtail. She is normally very active, eats "very" well, and like most Longtails is extremely curious & entertaining.
~ I am terribly concerned for her. I strongly suspect she has injested contaminated water!
SYMPTOMS: She has become unusually thin in the last few days. Her eyes & jaw area appear to be swollen & red. Today she seems weak and lethargic. She appears very disoriented and I fear she may be going blind.
~ We recently installed a waterfall in her tank - I usually clean the basin every few days & replace with fresh ("ReptiSafe" treated) water. Yesterday afternoon I noticed the water wasn't flowing properly, so I turned the waterfall off early (she also has a small pond to drink from). Today I took everything out to give it a thourough cleaning & check the waterfall pump. What I found was positively disgusting!! Crickets had somehow found their way through the opening at the top of the waterfall and had become lodged in the pump hose itself. The smell was putrid to say the least.
~ Do the symptoms I've described sound familiar to anybody? Is there anything I can give her ie: remedy/medication to help her feel better & alleviate her symptoms?

she has got some sort of bacterial infection from that contaminated water ! The swelling seems to be infection, I would think.

I can't give you any advice, other than call your Vet, because she probably needs some sort of anibiotic (internally ) at this point, and remember this is just my thoughts, from what you described the putrid water to be.

I'm sure if we drank or bathed from that kind of water we would get some sort of ailment too !

Wish you the best, wish I could have been more help !
I'm here, let me know how she makes out !

But call your vet and tell him the story,( I would not waste time, if she appears that lethargic, see what he recommends!
