Will my female lay egg?

Passport Mar 24, 2004 08:47 PM

My Brooksi bred on three occasions and stayed tied for hours each time. The female is absolutely huge. However, I can't feel eggs (of course I may be palpating incorrectly) She has been eating 3 adult mice twice a week. Tonight she refused to eat. When I examined her closely her belly is rough and I believe that she is getting ready for her second shed since brumation. How soon after this shed can I expect her to lay if gravid?

First, it would help if you gave us dates: when'd she come out of brumation? when was her first shed? the three occasions on which she bred?

it sounds like you should be feeling eggs...you should be feeling big ova around the time she's breeding, and then they should increase in size. Sometimes, though, a female's so "pumped up", her tissues so swollen, it might be hard to distinguish the eggs. OR you might have paired them prematurely and she won't breed meaningfully til after her second shed. how big is she?

most likely scenario is that she bred after first shed and will lay 8-10 days after 2nd shed, if eggs are good. Sometimes females deposit bad eggs earlier than that, and the rest of the good clutch still follows on approximately that schedule. Keep us posted, ok?

I brought all my snakes out of brumaton at the beginning of February. My female Brooksi is 6yrs old and I'm guessing a good 4ft. She is quite large. I found her first shed on the morning of 2-28 and put her with the male that day and they tied for hours. I put her back the next day and they tied again. I again put her with the male on March 6 with the resulting tie. I tried again a couple of times but she would have none of it. She is either very, very fat or there are developing eggs inside of her. With indications that the second shed is approaching I'm hoping that she will lay. But some books say "after the second shed introduce to the male again." So I'm a little confused and looking for some comments. Does this information help any? Thanks.
