burmese fighting or courting

wildlifelectures Mar 24, 2004 09:01 PM

I have a 13 ft burm and a 9 ft albino burm - i never sexed them. I put them together today and the big one is laying on top
and climbing all over the albino and pushing her around. there is no biting or anything that seems agressive.

is the big one courting or fighting?

Thanks

Usually females will be somewhat indifferent to the male's presence. If the larger snake is purposely pressing down into the other snake in an apparent effort to hold it down it is likely that you have two males together and the larger one is asserting itself over the smaller one to intimidate it.

If, on the other hand,.. the larger one is laying atop the smaller one and moving its tail back and forth and attempting to allign it's tail and or cloaca with the smaller ones, it could be a larger male on a smaller female. In this case look close for any spurring from the larger snake and flinching from the smaller snake where the larger snake's spurs would be (alongside the cloaca/vent)
