That sounds great they don't get that big around here. Where are you at? He should eat lizards or small snakes.

HerpHelmz Mar 25, 2004 02:55 PM

There is hardly a chance you found a 3 foot Northern ringneck, they do get somewhat big for ringnecks, but not 3 foot big. Here's what you need to do, get a piece of string, put it at the start of the snake's head and go all the way down to it's tail, then, is when you will realize that it's just a 17 inch ringneck snake, lol, seriously though? 3 feet? It would eat worms, lizards, small snakes, and pinkie mice if it came across them.

I did what you said..he was 2 1/2 feet :P guess he was not a big snake .Or is that big for a ringneck? Will he try to eat my rough????Tell me a good diet to have him on please

Keep them seperate. A diet of skinks worked well for me, but depending on your location, it might take more easily to salamanders, frogs, worms, etc.

Louisiana and dont know.

Hi, I would not put him with other snakes especially smaller ones he will eat them. You can feed him lizards, tree frogs, fish, worms and small snakes. Probably pinkie mice as large as he is. Buddy.

I HIGHLY DOUBT still that you have a 2 and a hald foot ringneck snake. Where you live the only ringneck SSP is the Mississippi(D.p.stictogenys) and they barely get to be around 16 inches. Do some searches for snakes in your area and see if you can find pictures of the snake that you have. Explain exactly what it looks like. And if you plan on keeping it, and if it is a ringneck, it will eat small lizards, skinks, snakes, worms, maybe fish, salamanders, frogs and maybe even pinkie mice.

I raise show quality netherland dwarfs, mini rex and jersey woolies!I also am a lover of reptiles

I believe that Herphelmz is correct. While some sub-species of ringnecks do indeed grow to 30 inches in length, the sub-species in your area (D.p.stictogenys) does not approach that lenth. Post a picture with a tape measure beside it. You may have been mistaken in your identification of the snake.

Kingsnakes make cool pets but will definitely eat other snakes can you post a picture?

HerpHelmz Mar 27, 2004 06:10 PM

I can post pics of some kingsnakes, here is one of my favorite. This photo is used on my website courtesy of Dave, you may have seen it in the Kingsnake Forums. It's a pic of a Florida Kingsnake eating a Corn Snake, the corn snake was on the verge of dying so Dave gave the Kingsnake a quick meal.
