My family is evil, gecko related and funny at my expence...

RedQuake Mar 24, 2004 10:25 PM

So i got my first set of eggs this morning and all is well with them, the temps have held strong all day, the eggs are a bright white, marshmellow texture. I'm now eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first hatchlings. Life is wonderful

I also had to work the evening shift at work today, calling every now and then, having my brother check on the egg temps. So after a long day and having to stay late (grrr) i really wasn't in the mood for anything but my bed. Of course my first action was to say hi and run down to check on my eggs. They were alright so i did my rounds of all my geckos only to find an egg in the 40 gallon tank with my 5 girls NONE of which have been bred. It was just one egg and a bit larger than what Flame produced this morning so i should have known something was up. I started with the "oh crap" thing again, to have my mom and brother come running as i open the incubator perparing another container for this single more than likely infertile egg.................

........hint my father works at a chicken farm.....

can you see the punch line yet????? LOL. They had put a very small chicken egg (ya they produce that small an egg) into the tank for the pleasure of seeing me run around once again. My brother spilled the beans just as i was about to remove it from the tank......and then he got in trouble LOL, i freaked cause who knows what bacteria was on it....he said he washed it in bleach...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr again! LOL

by all means if you find this funny have a good laugh....my family all did. And ya know i can see the humour. Oh for the day when i live alone LOL

It always sux to be on the butt-end of a joke, but you probably set yourself up for this one. It’s really cool to hear that you have your own eggs to care for, I’m sure you’ll have plenty more in the future too.

I’m a bit frustrated with my first eggs of the season; they are at 63 days right now. I’ve been pulling my hair out waiting for them to hatch, because they are from a pair that I am breeding for the first time and I can’t wait to see what the babies look like. If those two don’t hatch, ill have some blizzards eggs to stress over next.

Wait about a week before candling them, some times it takes a while for the veins to show up. Best of luck and keep us posted!

hehe i've been the butt-end of a joke a few times from my family. They like seeing me freak out and ya its my own fault, i need to learn to relax LOL. The wait for the eggs to hatch is going to drive me batty though i'm sure. 63 days is a long time. I'm not going to see babies until May.....thats a long time to wait hehehe.

It seems so sad to incubate them for so long and then not hatch but i'm glad you have other eggs to stress over. This is a good stress i think

I'll keep everyone posted for sure. Its the only place i can come and talk about geckos and not get *the look* LOL

Well, congrats on the eggs! Wow, that must be so exciting. What temperature are you incubating at? I remember waiting forever for my first eggs to hatch, but it was one of the best experiences of my life to wake up in the morning and see my babies. I haven't been keeping up with the forum, so I have to ask, who are the parents?

Thankyou. I'm incubating at 80 degrees and the mom is Flame. I haven't posted pics of her yet. I got her and three others March 6th. Both Flame and Karma were bred this season by the breeder so these are eggs from that. So this isn't a pairing i did but thats Ok. Having eggs regardless is exciting

LOL, too funny.

Hey, if your dad works at a chicken farm, would they happen to have an incubator laying around for you that they might not need anymore?

RedQuake Mar 25, 2004 07:17 AM

This particular farm only sells the eggs, they don't breed or incubate the eggs which sucks. I called a feed store in town and they are ordering me in a thermal air flow incubator.

Ah ok, that's too bad. Just thought what better place to find one than at a chicken farm eh?

I would have given you the number of the store over here if you couldn't find an incubator anywhere, but it sounds like you finally have one on the way. Let us know when you get it.

Now take a deep breath - and wait patiently for all your little eggs to hatch and for the TO reptile expo!

/me stops teasing Redquake and runs away.....

RedQuake Mar 26, 2004 06:32 AM

I should have been more specific. Its an egg farm so they don't incubate any of the eggs....just grade them and sell. It sucks now that i've thought about it. The man i talked to about the incubators called me yesterday and said that it should be here today or tomorrow.

I've calmed down quite a bit....come down with a nasty cold so i don't have much energy....which really sucks cause my supervisor called yesterday and asked me to work ALOT more hehehe... I'll be spending more time at work than at home.....so i won't be online much between tomorrow (Sat) and Wednesday. The extra shifts are great timing though, i 'll have alot more money for the expo.

I've got alot of work to complete today so that things are settled for while i'm at work. I'm moving the boys to another unit giving me more room and easier access to them. I want to move one stand over so i can put the incubator there. My list of things is so long but if i can convince one of my brothers to help out it shouldn't take to long hehe

I'll check my email often but i won't be in the forums until Wed.

Red
P.S. i dont' mind the teasing.....hehehe

Yeah I know how much that sux, I had so much to do and not much energy at times from having that cold a few weeks ago. Then to add to it, most of what I didn't need happening came all at once - I told you most of those problems already hehe.

I have to soon do some rearranging upstairs in the geckos room too. I'm still waiting for the hubby to build me some new cabinets for my tanks ::tapping foot:: Also have to pull out some spare tanks and slowly get them ready for the babies. The eggs are still looking good, I can see little veins in a few of them now, so "granny" has gotten even more excited.

Well, you have a good week at work then and be sure to earn lots of money! When I go to the expo, I will be picturing this lady lugging around a big cooler full of money LOL.

RedQuake Mar 26, 2004 10:36 AM

Well just after 11am and i've got a few things crossed off the list. I cleaned out Zeeks tank.....talk about an unhappy gecko LOL....i had moved him into a new tank a while back so i could clean out his but i didn't get around to it until today. I'm going to have to get a Britta water filter for these guys...the water marks just won't come off the glass. He's now back into his tank and slowly making his rounds. I've got 5 more tanks to clean lol.....i'm doing complete wash downs today. The 40 gal was fun.......NOT!!!!! The boys are next. I've got plans made up for a new crested enclosure and once i get some time off i'll be working on that. I can't really rely on anyone to help out or make stuff for me, i usually do it myself. It works out fine WHEN i have the time LOL.

I've never been to a show before...i'm rather hoping i can use my debit card instead of carrying much money on me. I still want to pick up some AFT's but i'm also going to look at supplies. It'll be a while until i have babies, so picking up or ordering a rack with the tape already installed is one of my plans. Yes i'm being lazy....i do have a few different units i can make into a rack, but its the heat tape thing thats giving me the creeps....wiring is just not my best attribute lol.

I have a small cooler i plan on taking cause i really don't want to be carrying the containers with the geckos....i might end up with to many to hold LOL...

Well this was a nice break.....now back to cleaning
