Iguana, but what kind....?

moosemonitor Mar 24, 2004 10:45 PM

Hi, a friend got an iguana dropped on her today (they just didnt want it anymore) and was told it is a rhino iguana, but after seeing the pics I highly doubt it. I think its a normal green, gone orange (as they sometimes do with age), but would love the input of folks who keep iguanas. We keep more aggressive species so arent really familiar with these guys.

This pic isnt the greatest, but they are going to get more tommorow (out in the sunlight, better for reptile photos). Hopefully its enough for you to decipher what it is though.

This one shows the face a bit better, which is the reason I think its not a Rhino, but hey, we could be wrong! Let me know if anyone knows what it is?

Iguana iguana rhinolopha.
And it is suffering form very severe MDB!!!!!!
You should hurry to help him!!!!!

Definatly a green iguana. Attached is a pic of a rhino iguana.

Many people refer to green iguanas with horns on their noses as Rhinos. Rhinos are actually a different kind as you will see from the attached pic.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I have a sneaking suspicion that it does indeed have MBD, and Im passing all this info on to her. I know she'll take good care of it, and get it the best treatment possible. Poor iguana...

It is a green iguana that has or at least had severe metabolic bone disease.
