What kind of Iguana is...

moosemonitor Mar 24, 2004 10:53 PM

This one? It got given to a friend, because the people didnt want it anymore, and she was told its a Rhino Iguana. It doesnt look much like the ones i've seen though, looks more like a Green, but with a bump on its nose.

Anyone have an Idea?

Its a green iguana with severe MBD. She needs to take it to the vet and have a bone density test done and calcium suppliments started if the vet deems them needed. Make sure she has the correct lighting UVB and heat for it. And proper food!!!!

that "bump" is a horn. Some greens have them depending on where they originate from. Is he in season? or is he always orange?

It was just dropped on her today, and she's trying to figure out what species it is exactly, to properly house it. The vets office is planned very soon, but she needs to house it properly too. Thanks for helping!

The vet should come before the housing. especially since it has (or had) MBD and it could need a specially designed enclosure since it does (or did)have severe MBD. So I would plan a vet trip this week ASAP!!!!! The sooner the better... Also I suggest she collect a fresh sample of poop (and refridge it to keep it fresh) so the vet can do a fecal exam Good luck

Its a green. ANd i agree VET ASAP. poor iggy. Its defintley not a rino. rinos are VERY expensive, and have mutch more mass, and are dark in color. also the gree iguana is the only iguana with the big sclat on there jawl. Poor iggy. Good luck with your new friend Im glad you desited to take him

I was typeing to fast and.

I ment green iguanas are the only iguanas with a large SCALE on there jawl. sory

Definately a giant green iguana, in bad shape. The severe deformation of the jaw is from MBD, and the rest of his/her bones are probably just as bad. At least he/she is in good hands now! Jiffypop or one of the other rescuers might be able to give you some more info on how well that jaw might come back.
