I was applying to a reptile store yesterday, and someone called in while I was there about selling there Red Tegu. This happens everywhere all across the country, where the reptiles store low balls. Anyways, the person wanted 50 bucks for a huge healthy red tegu, and the store just wouldn't buy it for that much, they wanted it for 25. They would plan to sell it for 275, you can calculate on your own how much they would make on that. This shows the exuberant amount that we pay for these animals and that amount that the reptile store does and the amount of profit they make. I dunno why I wrote this, just want ppl to realize that this is a business industry just like any other.

Retail pet stores are a joke. Their customer base is limited to people who are new to the hobby and don't realize that they can buy much higher quality reptiles directly from the breeder over the net or at expos.
Buying reptiles at pet stores makes about as much sense as buying a dog from a pet store. Deal directly with a breeder and get a higher quality animal for less money (from someone who can actually answer your questions about the animal).

i aggree, pet stores are a joke. the only time i buy anything from them is if it's been sitting there for several months and is 5 dollars more than anywhere else i can get it. i got an australian water dragon for 40 bucks and a blue tegu for 60. so if you wait long enough, good deals do come by, and this way you know they're not gonna stress out over shipping and stuff.
