Way better humidity and feeding ??

ecb Mar 25, 2004 09:48 AM

I tried one of those Turtle Filters that has the tube that shoots the water into the pool in a few streams out of the side of the outlet Tube (I thinmk its a zoo-med)
It fits the big Resin packets to reduce Hard water, and amonia, and ntrates and stuff like that
They can MOST definatly hear the water now, and the humidity is up to 76% without the Fogger, and goes up to 90% when the fogger has been on for 10 min
SO
I have reduced the Fogger to one half hour each am and each pm, the only problem is that the water needs to be filled more frequently (min once daily) which will make the going out for the weekend hard again, not to mention vacations.

But Erown spent about 20 min dancing in the waterfall and rubbing on stones, and guess what, she is now in shed.

Next issue

Wish she would eat more. Her back legs are fatter than they were before, but she is only eating once every 4 or 5 days, and if she goes a week I feel I should give her some Pedialamb

I have gotten a Ice tray with small cubes (about 1 or 2 tsp each) and I M mixing the Pedialamb and freezing it, and then putting the cubes in a Zip lock, I just pull out one when I want to feed her. I know its not a lot to loose one jar every other Month to feed her 1 tsp of meat, but this way I can save a bunch over time.
Anyone have an idea how much Reptivite or Reptical I should add to the mix?
I think 1/4 of a Tsp is a lot for 30 feedings (one jar of food, and half a jar of Pedialyte), but I may be wrong
I do not want her to get toxic

Any ideas?

The turtle filter sounds great. I many have to look at it.

So, She is eating about once or twice a week on her own?

Remember too that when in shed she won't eat as much. Have you palpated her to make sure there aren't any lumps? It would be sad it she was suffering retained eggs.

I Don't think using the pedialamb is a bad idea, beats worrying because she isn't eating. I would consider getting a bottle of calcium drops and just adding a drop to the lamb at the time you feed it. For a good read on vitamins check out www.anapsid.org/vitamin.html

I think your idea of freezing cubes is good. I used to do that too. I just hate tossing out good nutrition!

I hope she gets back to normal soon.

Yes i have palpated her bely, and it is Flacid (like when you loose a lot of weight fast)
no eggs, nothing I can feel in there

and yes, she has been seen eating one or two nightcrawler s in a 7 day period (only one at a time) even tracker ate a whole Nightcrawler this week (his tummy is HUGE now)

i have put a space heater in my room, and put a Heat Pad under the tank, and you were right, Erowen wants more heat. at night when the light goes off, she JUMPS down INTO her food dish (which is closer to the Heat pad than the surface of the dirt. and she just lays there until the lgiht has been on for about 30-45 min, then she climbs right up to the screen, under the light bulb. She is gonna LOVE the Philadelphia Summer (90 temps and 60-80% Humidity almost every day)

I HAVE to get one of those Display cases, the Reptariums with the plexi and Plastic sides. It would HAVE to be easier to kep heated (you can insulate the outside) and setting up Drainage will be better, I think I have figured a way for Soil to drain into pool without to much Dirt getting in.

There is a reptile show here in Pa next month (there is one this weekend but I have plans for the beach the same day) I will go see if I ca get one of their Floor Displays and modify it myself.

Great plans, wish I could get them done

I was talking to a guy who works with agamids that said he uses gardening shade cloth to make the sides of his enclosures. That got me to thinking that perhaps I could build a box frame, cover the sides and back with shade cloth, and then put a door with plexi on the front. The top would be screen or hardware cloth stapled on and the bottom could be lined with pond liner. It would be easy to set up a drain, fill with substrate and put in a nice pool.

Just ideas, nothing being built yet but if I do I'll let you know how it works. I am in the process of selling off my snakes and getting back to where I only have my MHDs and then I will be in full building mode.

I sure hope for you and Erowen that she gets her appetite back soon. I keep hoping for you that it is just a slump and not a real illness. Maybe the heat will do the trick.

It's really warmed up here and the last 3 days have been in the 70's so we have had the heat turned off the last few nights. It gets really cool in my reptile room at night since it's in the basement. This morning all the girls were just laying around, not unusual in itself, but this was weird. Jewel was making like she was part of the branch, head down, legs stretched out behind her. One had her head down hanging over her front leg. They were all in weird positions, looked like someone had drugged them! I really think it was just that they were cold. Nobody seemed interested in nightcrawlers either so I had to leave them in the bowls.
