So what the heck ARE those little nubs on their skin?

AgentOfLillith Mar 25, 2004 01:50 PM

I never stopped to question this and I don't think anyone else has either, but what are those nubs all over the gecko's skin? They're not soft, but they're not hard and bony (kinda stiff?). What purpose do they serve? What are they?

Reason I ask is that no other lizard I know of has irregular scales like that, and they sort of remind me of the way the bony plates were on an Ankylosaurus(sp?).

I think someone told me they were used to collect dew overnight and they would lick it off in the morning. Out in the wild of course
