Burmese and what?

regaltip2 Mar 25, 2004 04:33 PM

I am building a huge cage for my albino burm. He is 8.5 ft. I want to put other snakes in the cage native to the general area he is native to(asia, philippines, etc.) what would one suggest that has some vivid colors?

im not so much saying not to do it, im really not, so much as im giving you my approach and take on the matter of housing multiple snakes in a single enclosure.

i follow the K.i.s.s. approach, keep it simple stupid! im not calling you stupid, thats just what kiss means. and i agree, it doesnt just come down to keeping cages simple, but it really comes into alot of aspects of keeping these animals. my rule is one snake per enclosure, unless im introducing animals for breeding. its the simplest, easiest, most effective way to keep snakes. it eliminates a great deal of worry about parasitic, pathenogenic, and even psychological cross contamination. it also makes record keeping much easier, ever try to figure out which of 6 snakes took the poop when you werent there to see it happen? what happens if one snake gets sick? theres a good chance anything sharing the tight confines ( i dont care how big the enclosure is, its tiny compared to a snakes territory in the wild) of a cage will get it will end up sick. again, similar to the poop in alot of ways, but, think about this, youve got several large ticked off snakes sharing one cage and each needs to be treated, ill leave it there, im sure you get the picture. ok, just in case you dont, imagine having to deal with a couple of large ticked off snakes every time you go to take one out or put on back in for the needed treatments. not fun! and just think about all of those snakes sharing a cage, and most likely any external parasite thats in that cage. oooh, or feeding time, a bunch of hungry snakes, that possibly smell like food, again, bad scene, and possibly very dangerous, even if nothing smells like food! ill stop hear, but, ill also say, its just flat out not the best idea.
