Best way to keep a lot of crickets??

fadetolemons Mar 25, 2004 05:01 PM

I'm trying to think of a better system for keeping/gutloading crickets. I was thinking about getting one of those cricket cages w/ the spout thing, and just keeping a ton in there w/ some food and water and vitamins/calcium to gutload them on, would this work well?

I'm not familiar with these cricket cages nor of their size. How many are you talking when you say a "ton" of crickets? One thing crickets don't like is being over-crowded. If you use a large bin, you can easily keep a 1000 or more as long as they have enough hiding places and things to sit on. Egg crates, paper rolls, etc. Then it's just a matter of feeding and watering them very well, and keeping them clean and well ventilated so they stay healthy, and don't start to smell.

I was just thinking like 200-300 crickets, maybe less, I'll figure something out.
