Boscs breeding and photos taken

jcmonitor Mar 25, 2004 07:05 PM

Hello all,
Back in February I posted that my Bosc's were introduced but that I had not witnessed copulation. After 3 weeks I knew she wasn't gravid and removed the male. Well tonight at 6:15 pm I came home and she was in the mood because she busted the top off of her cage and I got pictures of the two of them succesfully copulating on the floor of my reptile room. Yeah it's not in the breeder cage but I didn't want to tell them that :P

Will follow with pics of eggs on or about April 15th.

Congrats, that's a cool site. You don't see too many people posting pics of their boscs breeding. Let's hope to see some eggs in a couple of weeks. Best of luck to you,

HI,
Congrats to your mated pair - I wrote about V. exanthematicus reproduction behavior 10 years ago, and the phase or step you have photographed is called, "TWA = Tail Wrap Around = #3 step phase" in their courtship display...in about 3-7 weeks you could have eggs popping out. Keep them incubated at 29 C and 87% and they will hatch out ~160-175 days or so...

Good Luck!

Thank you for the info. I have the incubator all set up so it can stabilize and the nest box is already in her cage. I have a sand/vermiculite mix with some coconut fibers in it but it will hold a burrow great. Will get pics of eggs as soon as they are set up in the incubator. I know boscs are very common but I am proud that I can contribute to the small pool of real captive breds.

Congrats on the breeding! I hope you get eggs and future babies. You will be one of the VERY RARE true captive bred dealers of Boscs.
Most retailers/breeders swear they are cb/h babies but supply no proof when asked. 99% are lying, but I'm sure you know that.

Besk of luck to you!! I hope you get eggs/babies.

Thanks, really looking forward to it. The female has already gone from feeding every other day to once since she bred and that was five days ago. Also I am expecting a bunch of eggs she is getting bigger and bigger everyday. I think by her 2 weeks I may even have to get her a bigger nest box just to be sure she is comfortable. Will post some pics of the eggs the day they are laid expecting them on the 15th of April. Who knows maybe I will get something cool and unique out of this pairing.
