Jody or anyone else who wants to put some advice to these questions

flavicross Mar 25, 2004 10:24 PM

Hey Jody since I am moving over to Fl I have been meaning to ask you if you kept your monitors in outdoor cages or if you used the indoor outdoor half and half method or do you just keep them inside? The reason I ask is i was planning on building outdoor cages for the summers any input would be great dude and if you have pics and are in a giving mood maybe you can give me some examples.

thanks alex

Hello,

I keep my iggies outside. They are fine and love it, I have greens, rhino's, and lewesi's. I have had my monitors outside but never to live outdoors. If I had more land I would gladly put them out all year round.

Right now everything is in half and half cages. I do have some young ones indoors and they are of course fine, but I set them up differently indoors then outdoors, or even half and half.

This all depends where you move to. How your house is, my reptiles all face south so they get alot of sun and heat.

If you plan on half and half or outdoor one big difference here is humidty, it is high so totally selaed cages will be way to humid fopr most things. But you can grow plants in them well, mold, and bacteria too. LOL

Thanks Jody i will keep the facing south thing in mind when i am looking at houses i am coming down on the 28th. I am looking in boca raton, plantation around there somewhere lol ha ha ha ha ha. Just north of miami I dont want to be too close to it or too far.

Haha, hey I'm almost finished building the inside part to a an indoor- outdoor enclosure. Maybe when you get down here you can help me build the outdoor part. How soon you coming down?

flavicross Mar 25, 2004 10:37 PM

These are for some waters. Then I'll start with the crocs, then my WT and so on.Slowly but surely. Dont worry I'll be busy all summer. Where you moving to?

thats awesome I have gouldii complex monitors right now but i will for sure get more species when i get to Fl i want to get into indos. I dont know where I am moving yet i have to go down the 28th of april to house hunt that whole weekend, but i am looking to be just north of miami. Somewhere not too close but not too far from the city, like plantation, boca raton, ft lauderdale maybe im not sure lol. Maybe when youre done with the cages you can take some pics and show me your craftsmanship lol but id love to see some pics if you are willing to show.

I'll take some pics of the indoor part and show em when I'm done with it. I should get started around June -July with the outdoor side of it.

Let us know when you're coming down. Jody and I will take you herp hunting. We'll find you a Cottonmouth for your catching pleasure. I'm in northern palm beach county.
