2 years of paperwork/red tape = 2.2 Inland Taipans!
As far as we can tell, we are the only place in the world with all 3 forms of Taipans on display!

Pretty amazing stuff. Too bad you're way out in BFE, but if I'm ever in...South Dakota is it?...I'll be sure to stop by, lol.

Hopefully there will be a couple more microlepidotus coming in in the coming year or so, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Of course, your observations on these specimens would be greatly appreciated.

Sean,
These snakes are bad a!! no kidding man! I opened the crate to 3 king cobra 2 russells 2 Okinawa habus 5 mexican mojaves and I didn't even see them, all I could focus on was the
O. microlepidotus! One adult male about 6 feet, and 1.2 6 month olds..........the color variations are incredible!
Chance,
Just because we don't agree on certain things doesn't mean you can't travel to So Dak. It's really nice up here...when its not snowing!
Depending on the "top 10" list you all agree on , this season we will display 9 of the ten, missing only the Beaked Sea Snake!
As soon as I get back, I will sweet talk the spousal unit into posting picks, as I couldn't work a digital camera to save my ars!

Terry,

Lol, trust me, the only reason I'd ever intend to make it to one of those "extreme" midwestern states would be solely to see your institution's collection. Well, maybe that, and to see Mt. Rushmore (if I'm even thinking of the right state on that one).

More to the point, I'd never let a bit of personal disagreement discount such a monumentous bit of news. Besides, I'd much rather have you as an ally than an enemy. We obviously have similar tastes (i.e. good) in the elapids that fascinate us, and the opportunity for information exchange is too valuable to pass up. Sure I can always e-mail Australian keepers about their coastals and yadda yadda, but for one, they can't keep canni (by and large), and everyone would certainly agree that there are some major differences between the two ssp; and for two, their not residing in the US and not knowing how few and far between all Oxyuranus are makes being able to talk to other US keepers all the more important.

I think it's excellent that an institution in the US not only has O. microlepidotus, but 2.2! I can only hope, and well imagine, that you will be making every attempt to breed these guys and send them to other zoos around the country. But for now, do get the wife on the digi and get some (copious) pictures posted.
