Feeding turtles superworms.

Flavia Guimaraes Mar 26, 2004 04:53 AM

Well, i have a soft heart and i simply cannot tolerate giving living KOIs or even living Guppies to my turtles anymore!( I have 1 map turtle and 2 snake necks. My recently rescued baby FRTs doesnt eat living fishes!)So i tryied to give them living superworms.I dont know why i dont feel as sorry for the superworms as i feel for my poor fishes!
Well, all of them just love to chase and to eat the superworms and are getting even fatter and fatter.Any problem? Thanks for any comment on that crazy diet!lol!

Try going to the local petstore or fish market, and at the pet store, get frozen silversides...at the fish market get smelt... They are usually sold in packs about 12 oz, or so... thaw some out and feed them those...no real hard feelings.
The superworms live to breed...not much else...no real signs of personality... don't feel bad

Superworms are high in fat and have a low calcium to phosphorus ratio. So, while they make good "starter" food for difficult eaters, and they can be part of a varied diet, they shouldn't be the only food. Do your turtles eat pellets? Walkabout Farms at www.herpnutrition.com makes a very good aquatic pellet. Earthworms are very nutritious, and you can order them from wormman.com
