Incubating-range of temps or one specific one question >>>

RedQuake Mar 26, 2004 07:29 AM

Hi, i've been wondering. After reading that females are incubated at temps between 79-82 degrees i wanted to know if the temps can fluctuate between those numbers or if they have to be a specific one, say 80. I ask only because my incubator is fluctuating, for example from 80.1 - 80.5 Its only the point something thats going up or down but is that enough to cause problems? (((my hovabator will be here today or tomorrow by the way))).

Also can you explain what sort of temp fluctuations cause birth deformities? Is the the extreme changes that do it?

I laid in bed for quite a while thinking that it is a real miracle to hatch babies with all that can go wrong.

Now i'm only going to be able to check the forums today, starting tomorrow i'll be working pretty much non stop through the weekend and into next week (double shifts and i'll only be coming home to sleep). I want to make sure the hovabator is setup properly and the temps are alright before i switch the eggs over. How long does this usually take? My brother is going to be checking the temps for me while i'm at work but it'll be me that swiches the eggs over. I'm so thankful for my brother....working this much, he really helps me out

Thanks for any info

red,
slight temp fluctuations like you are talking about is fine and completely normal... the problem with deformities is when there is a dramatic tempature spike (so going from 80-90 with in a few hours) or sometimes when the incubation medium is too wet but with too wet incubation medium the eggs usually dies before hatching anything out deformed or not... you are doing fine a plus one or two degree temp flux either way should not effect them at all.
