my little one finally ate a very small amount

sila Mar 26, 2004 09:29 AM

Okay today she finally ate some shredded green bean out of my hand but very little just a couple of tiny bites.I put her in a seperate container and soaked her then put her in a container to feed her as the other dragon is a pig and was eating all the crickets. I put 6 of these crickets in the container for her and she wont touch them. She ate about 4or 5 on monday but that was it and couple of dandelion bits. How long can she keep on like this before it starts to make her sick? Am I worrying for nothing and this is normal? The temps in the cage are fine..Basking of 105 ambient of 90 in the tank.Is this too hot?
They seem to want it hotter and stay as close to the light as possible most of the time. Ive given up completely on the useless repcal pellets they dont touch those no matter what I do with them.../thanks for all the previous help..Sila

she might be geing intimidated by the other dragon and that puts her off food, even if removed from it to eat.

The fact she is up basking is a good sign, that helps assure that she is not ill and maybe its just a problem with adjusting to a new home or the living situation she is in.

Often one will intimidate the other psychologically (spelling?) not physically, They need to be separate. I had 2 from the same litter and one just ate and ate and the other did not. I thiught I was going to lose the small one , separated them and the small one grew to be twice the size of it's clutch mate. I put the small one in a 60 gal L and taped paper on the tank so they could not see each other and it worked!!

I know my little one has a bit of her tail missing. It was like that when I got her. Maybe she was picked on too much..I did notice that though they scatter the food some does get eaten when Im not around. I thought that bds were supposed to be social, I hadnt really intended to have them seperated. I do have an extra 40g tank at the moment but I was going to put my ball python in it so the beardies could have the large enclosure when they got big. /if the enclosure is bigger would there be less intimidation problems..My UVB light came yesterday but I only have one and it cost me 40.00. I hope I dont have to get another one so soon..
Thanks for the advice Iwill see if that helps
