Do you soak ??

funkymonkey Mar 26, 2004 10:08 AM

I have been looking about the web while at work,, Tough life working in telecomms...lol

anyway have been noticing that some people soak their lizards in warm water to help with going to the dunny.

is this the only reason they do it.

my 4 little guys are fine as doing no2's so i have never soaked them,,,,

would it be benificial to as they seem ok or not ??

cheers

Funky.

ps,,no eggs ever came from Grumpy, her gravid colours have now gone, she is still a little fat but not as fat as b4,

Hi Funky, I never have had to soak a collared !

I have soaked my Bearded Dragon, not to have him go to the bathroom, just to hydrate him alittle and clean him.

I also have bath day for my chuckwallas and uromastyx as they get pretty scuffty otherwise.

But never collareds ! I think Johneee has, while one was sick, with a resp infection.

As far as grumpy never having her eggs, and getting thinner, well sounds as though she reabsorbed them.

But hey thats great, alot better than NOT being able to lay and being eggbound and possible death. So be thankful!

Hey about your possible Dragon, I do use sand as a substrate, but only when they are older. If ya get a little one, same thing as collareds paper towels for awhile.

Most people on the dragon forum will recommend using shelf liner for a substrate, because it is washable. You may want to talk to them about it!

I like a more earthy look sandy, woodsy, with big old log to bask on !!! Good Luck !

As always Eve you have been a great help,

Cheers very much.

Too be honest i have learn a tonne of info from this forum on collards, vivs, beardies, all sort.

I am glad Grumpy is ok, She is in great health and is eating and bouncing around fine.
Why do you think the eggs were no good to lay ??

any ideas ??

she is quite small and only about 8 months old, would that have anything to do with it do you think.

on the beardie issue, thats good news. what i think i will be doing for a beardie enclosure will be fake rocks on the back and sides.

are they diggers like the collareds ?? so do i need quite deep sand or will just a light covering over the fake rock be ok ??

Maybe Brockn or Will or someone can better answer that, as I just don't know, if they are just not formed right or what !

The whole process of reabsorbing is quite facinating !

As far as my beardy, I use about 3 inches of playsand. They actually come from a woodland type environment. sandy / soily !

They like to climb up on logs, to bask, and have been seen basking on fences and such in the wild.

I think Auggie like Logs more than rock !
