Lame move...

aplaxco Mar 26, 2004 10:27 AM

I had my first rat escape last night and he managed to get into a small space between my sink cabinet and shower wall. He isn't the most friendly rat and I have no idea how to get him out. I can't get my hand in the hole he crammed himself through. I have the bathroom door shut so he can't get out of there now. Anybody have any suggestions about how to catch him? I'm worried he'll die back there and stink up my bathroom.

I can't believe I let him escape...I was distracted by new babies, and I didn't even know the hole was there.

If there is no food or water source you could wait long enough for him to get good and hungry. Then you might be able to coax him out with the thirst & hunger.

I had a couple of females who chewed out the bottom corner of their tub when the 3rd female had her babies. They ran under the cupboard in that room and I couldn't reach them. I held a water bottle where they could see it but had to come out to get it and when they started to drink I put a tub over them.

Perhaps you could rig some sort of live trap and use the food and water as bait.

Good luck!

Use a broom handle or other object to poke the rat to get him to come out. Or, you can purchse a live rat trap and set it in the bathroom. Or you can tempt him with a favorite treat, or even a piece of dogfood or whatever his stable diet is.

Get a rat trap and set it. It'll be dead by morning.
You could use a live trap, but he the rat likes to escape you really don't want it happening every chance it gets.
