Gestation time in between clutches?

lovelyleopards Mar 26, 2004 10:28 AM

I have a female who layed for her first time yesterday, and I was just curious how long it'll be before her next clutch? It seems like she had been visibly gravid for at least a month before laying, but I would assume that her next clutches will be closer together. Thanks!

Hello,

In the books, it can be earlly as 3 to 4 weeks, in first experience it took the female 35 days before she laid her second cluth.

In my experience, it totally depends on their food intake, which subsequently depends on their temperature. The warmer you keep them, the faster their metabolism, and that means everything happens faster.

When kept in the low to mid 70's, mine seemed to lay about every 5-8 weeks. When given a "basking" area (heat tape) of about 80 degrees, they've been laying every 30 days or less. I recently had one lay eggs on March 1 and again on March 25.
