To put it simple my tank is on spring break and they have gone wild lol. Both the males are running around trying to mount the females. The males especially the small one is doing a lot of head bobing. At first i though the males would fight, but so far nothing. I guess since my malis male is so much larger than the moroccan male he doesn't even care. So everything is looking good in my tank. I thought the malis female has been gravid for a few weeks, but after seeing what i saw today she is almost definatly going to be gravid by the end of the week if she isn't already.
The left side of my tank which is the basking side has is made up of a rock pile, but the right side is open area. So whenever on of the females goes into the open area you will see a male dart from rock pile to try to mount her. The reason why the females are going to the open area is because of the food. Should i move the food closer to the rock pile, or leave it there for more breeding attempts. I just weighed the females, and the large malis female went from 217 to 227 in a week, and the ornate female went from 145 to 158 in 1 week also.
Also, even though they have been out of brumation for a month or two they still, especially the large male, have been on the sluggish side. But since the temp. outside is getting warmer he is really starting to get active even the the temps in the cage are staying the same. So i think that no matter what uros react to outdoor temp, and you have to cycle them according to your areas natural seasons. I am not saying put them outside in chicago, but try to mimic what is happening outside to a lesser degree.
