Handling PTS

mike3 Mar 26, 2004 10:45 AM

Can you handle PTS often? Do you see them in the cage that often? Since they are nocturnal how could you handle them or see them during the day. I just want to make sure before buying a PTS that you will be able to see it and handle it.

Can you handle them, yes- and I have seen several that are very mellow about being handled. I do not handle mine very often now- I think most reptiles are mildly stressed by handling, and I keep currently keep the handling to a minimum for my PTS. I am happy with having a successful breeding pair, and don't desire to make 'tame' pets out of them. I get my reptile handling fix with my boas.
Do you see them often during the day? NO. The adults and older juvies come out right before or right after the lights go out to eat. The youngsters wait several hours to come out after the lights go out. If I look hard, I can see pieces of them sticking out from hides or plants- but they are not out and about. I see about the same amount of my sand boas. When I get them out during the day they to inspect/weight/soak in shower ect, it invariably disrupts their evening behavior (MUCH less eating and more hiding).
Cheers, Jess b

I have 30 reptiles at home right now and i can state you that Monkey Tails are my prefered! They are the only lizard that i have that keeps me company while im watching TV at 3 in the morning! They can become very tame and sweet if you take your time to handle them, to take them out from their cages, to walk around with them in your shoulders or under your hair! They are very easy to tame, they love to be petted on the head and they love when you talk with them the same way you talk with human babies. They have an iguana temperament but they are much less nervous than iguanas, less sensitive and much easier to tame!

I just adore my Monkey Tails!
